Course Duration: November 2020 to April 2021 + Portfolio Project
Travel Photography is about capturing the essence of a place and its people. Nature Photography is about capturing the many facets and moods of nature.
Photographing a destination has its own set of challenges. The starting point is the understanding of the technical and aesthetic aspects of photography. Apart from this, you will need to have a good level of understanding and sensitivity towards the place, people and their culture.
To be able to express your passion for nature visually, you need to open your senses to various aspects of nature and connect with the subject intimately.
Light & Life Academy will give you a good grounding of the technical and creative aspects of Travel & Nature Photography and the nuances involved, to create interesting and meaningful images.
At Light & Life Academy, we believe that, whatever may be the reason for creating an image, the fundamental requirement is a good understanding of the art and science of Photography. Study of the fundamentals of Photography, therefore, will be an integral part of the programme. This will help you create images that will draw attention and engage the viewer.
Lectures, slide shows and informal corridor conversations with the faculty help students understand the nuances of Travel and Nature Photography. Each topic has its own time-bound assignments and submissions with critique and grading. During this phase, you will explore all that you have learnt in Section I and also build on it.
This will be a one week workshop. Through this session, you will explore the power of communication of the multi-media format. You will study the many ways in which multi-media communication can be put together.
You will work on a group project where you will conceptualize, shoot and edit with sound and titles and create a multi-media presentation.Photojournalism (3 days)
There will be a series of presentations by senior professionals from the industry, covering a gamut of topics; their experience, the challenges they faced etc.
On completion of Sections I, II & III, students will have a good understanding of photography at a professional level. In Section IV, LLA offers an insight into additional areas of photography. This will give the students an appreciation of the nuances involved in particular areas of photography.
Note: Travel to destinations that are rich in underwater life is getting increasingly popular. As a result, underwater photography has become a much sought after area of study. Light & Life Academy will be happy to conduct a seminar on underwater photography at an extra cost, if a minimum of 10 students enrol for the programme.
Portfolios are mirrors of talent, exposure and experiences. Students create them using all that they have learnt, seen, heard and experienced through the duration of the course. A detailed brief will be given, before the students start working on their portfolio.
6 months + 1 to 2 months of portfolio work.
Assignment submissions are judged based on communicative value, quality of content, creativity, originality and how publishable an image/visual story is, in a newspaper/magazine or on a news website, where standards correspond to industry norms. Punctuality, attendance and participation in class and in-class activities are mandatory.
