Every area of study above has its own time-bound assignments and submissions with critique and grading. The faculty also offers collective and individual feedback even while students are working on their assignments.

Once students complete their study of the Fundamentals of Photography they move on to an intensive study of the areas of specialisations that every professional photographer will find immensely useful. Understanding these areas will help them explore any area of photography with confidence:

  • Conceptual and Candid Portrait Photography (Studio and Location)
  • Level 1: Product Photography (Studio and Location)
  • Level 2: Advanced and Conceptual Product Photography and high speed flash photography (Those who have successfully completed Level 1 with a Grade B minimum, will be eligible for this).

Every subject has its own time-bound assignments and submissions with critique and grading. During this phase, the students are encouraged to develop and explore an individual vision.

Once students become proficient in handling assignments of Section II, they can pursue further study in any one of the following Groups of specialisations:

Travel & Nature Photography (3 days)

Advanced Photoshop (One Week)

Areas Covered:

Multi-Media (One Week)

This will be a one-week workshop. Through this session, you will explore the power of communication of the multi-media format. You will study the many ways in which multi-media communication can be put together.

You will work on a group project where you will conceptualize, shoot and edit with sound and titles and create a multi-media presentation.

Photojournalism (3 days)

This will be a three-day workshop. There will be a series of presentations by senior professionals from the industry, covering a gamut of topics; their experience, the challenges they faced etc.

This will be conducted in an intensive workshop format with Lectures, Slideshows and Case Studies. Participants will then explore the various areas on their own.

Value Adds - 1 year Diploma in Professional Photography Course, Professional photography College

On completion of the earlier sections, students will have a good understanding of photography at a professional level. In Section V, LLA offers an insight into additional areas of photography. This will give the students an appreciation of the nuances involved in specific areas of photography.

  • Industrial Photography (Only those who have completed Level 2 of Advanced Product and Conceptual Product Photography can participate in this session)
  • Large set-up and Automobile Photography (Only those who have completed Level 2 of Advanced Product and Conceptual Product Photography can participate in this session)

These sections will be conducted in a seminar format covering Lectures, slide shows, real life case studies, for each area of study. This is followed by an intensive Q & A session. Students can then explore these areas on their own. Attendance at these seminars is optional.

At Light & Life Academy, it is believed that photographers are a sum of their experiences. That is why special sessions on campus, from guest lectures to 'photo-walks' around Nilgiris, are organised from time to time, while ensuring that the students complete their core areas of study to expectations.

Portfolios are mirrors of talent, exposure and experiences. Students create them using all that they have learnt, seen, heard, experienced through the duration of the course. A detailed brief will be given, before the students start working on their portfolio.

Evaluation is done on a continuous basis, on assignments submitted and tests administered from time to time. The students are expected to clear every single assignment with a minimum score of 70%. As Light & Life Academy believes that every student can make the grade, the student is given enough opportunities and assistance from the faculty to achieve the minimum grade for every assignment.

Note: The policy of the Academy is to constantly update the course content. This is based on developments in the field (technical and aesthetic), the learning curve of the students and the commitment demonstrated by the class. The course content, schedules and methodology aretherefore subject to change even as the course is in progress.

LLA is keen on helping reduce the financial burden on the students enrolling for the 2020 – 2021 batch so you do not give up on your dreams and aspirations.

We have decided to offer the facility of paying fees in installments, to help mitigate the stress on finances:

  • Instalment One: Registration fee Rs. 50,000/- to be paid as specified in the offer of Admission Letter
  • Instalment Two: Part fees for Section I & Section II, Rs. 3,50,000/- before 31st August 2020 + 30,000 (refundable security deposit)
  • Instalment Three: Balance of fees for Section I & Section II, Rs.2,50,000/- before 31st January, 2021
  • Instalment Four: Section III, Specialisation fees, Rs. 80,000/- before 31st March, 2021

Note: If you have already paid the Registration Fee of 50,000 INR, You will only have to pay Instalment 2,3 and 4.

GST as applicable will be required to be paid along with each instalment.

The fees includes: 

  • Use of lighting equipment, light modifying accessories and grip equipment within the Academy Campus only. 
  • A selection of props and backgrounds for use in LLA Studios (to be returned in original condition after use). 
  • Models, stylist, make-up artist/hair stylist, food stylist, faculty and other professionals for demo sessions only, based on the requirements of different areas of study. 
  • Transport from Ooty (designated pick up points) to Academy and back on days when the student is required to be on campus for a class/ critique session / demo 
  • Lunch, tea / coffee on days when the student is required to be on campus for a class/ critique session / demo

 Additional Expenses to be borne by the students

  • Personal equipment as specified by the Academy
  • Personal equipment maintenance / repairs / insurance / books / stationery
  • Personal expenses on accommodation, food and personal travel, etc.
  • Expenses for travel and stay at locations where assignment shots and portfolio shots are to be done
  • Expenses involved while working on specialisation projects, on models, stylist, make-up artist/hair stylist, food stylist and other professionals only based on the requirements of different areas of study, opted for
  • Cost of making archival prints, in case of exhibition on campus or at locations off-campus

The list of equipment that you will need to get for the Course, will be given to you on admission.

Admission is on a first-come-first-served basis and involves a three-step process:

  • Portfolio Review
  • Skype Interaction
  • Personal interview at the Academy

The Academy notifies admission status soon after the interview.

Note: The Academy follows an open admission policy. You should have a minimum of 15 years of formal education in any subject with a degree. In rare cases, exceptions will be made at the discretion of the management. You should be at least 20 years old.

The Academy will help you find appropriate accommodation to suit your budget.

  • Profile Image: Jpeg of your Recent Passport Size Photograph with a plain background (No Selfies, file must be less than 1 mb)
  • PDF/Jpeg Photocopy of Educational certificates (Under Graduation & Post Graduation as applicable), if degree is not yet completed or you are awaiting results click on Under Progress on the application form.
  • Reference letters: If you have reference letters please upload them, however, it is not compulsory.
  • Portfolio: 20 of your best images taken using a DSLR camera (Jpeg, 96 dpi,12" x 8" size)
  • Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking to make Payment of Rs. 1000 + GST to apply for the course.

Step 3: Payment

  • If you have completed filling in the Application - Proceed to Pay Rs.1000/- using Credit/Debit card or Net banking
