For many students of Batch 24, the drone photography module was their first-ever experience flying a drone. The Nilgiris, with its clear skies and excellent visibility, provided the perfect backdrop.
The module began with a classroom session, where students learned the fundamentals of aerial photography and the technical know-how required to operate a drone. This was followed by a hands-on demo, giving each student the chance to take control and fly the drone themselves.
Here’s some behind the scenes action from the session.
At LLA, the aerial photography session isn’t just about mastering the mechanics of drone flying. The true focus lies in using this bird’s-eye view to tell compelling visual stories. Students were tasked with creating sequences that document life on the LLA campus and life in the village of Achanakkal in the Nilgiris.
For most, it was their first time experiencing the thrill of drone photography, and it opened up a whole new way of looking at the world.
Here’s what the students had to say about the session.
“The drone session was fascinating because I had never flown a drone before. We got the chance to understand drone photography individually and work in teams to conceptualize shots, which was amazing. Exploring different areas of our campus from an aerial view was intriguing, and capturing the concept of life on campus made it even more interesting. Working in teams was really fun and added to the experience.” – Tanisha Dubey
“Seeing Lovedale from an aerial perspective was so cool—it felt like a fun video game at first! Watching the results on the controller was fascinating, and this session made me want to buy a drone. The faculty were great, sharing their technical knowledge and answering all our doubts. Shooting familiar spaces from a completely different angle was incredible. I absolutely loved the session and hope to work with drones more in the future.” – Vrinda Chandak
