The Fashion Photography Specialisation marks both a culmination of learning and the beginning of a new approach for students at Light & Life Academy. It introduces them to the scale and complexity of a full-fledged editorial shoot—complete with professionals from the industry – models, stylists, hair and makeup artists, creative producers, and a production team.
Over the course of the session, students follow the entire process closely: from concept and mood boards to the final images. They see how each element comes together, with the photographer guiding them through every step. This year, the session was led by Aneev Rao.
“During the Fashion demos with Aneev Rao, I got a close up view of how the whole team – stylist, makeup artist, photographer and production – work together to bring the image to life. There was complete sync within the team and that’s what tied the idea together.
The other thing that struck me was how Aneev Sir gave directions to the models and how that really made a difference in the images. His directions were clear and also clever – he asked the models to imagine they were in a particular situation and the models were able to embody the story of the photograph. When I thought of fashion, I honestly only thought of clothing or accessories. Personally, I’ve always felt like a storyteller — but I never imagined I could bring that into my fashion shoots. Sir kept emphasising the story throughout the session, right from day one and even while shooting, and that was the most interesting part for me. – Ria Saraf
After the Fashion specialisation session, students went out and created their own fashion stories. These images will serve as a starting point for their fashion photography portfolios as they complete the course at Light & Life Academy.
