Throughout the academic year, we aim to broaden our students’ horizons by offering them a variety of perspectives and experiences. We believe that the more they engage with, the better equipped they are to discover their own path, strengths, and what truly resonates with them.
So, when the “My Radio My Life” team approached us with the idea of screening their film on campus, we were thrilled to make it happen! As expected, the students thoroughly enjoyed the screening, leaving them with plenty of thoughts, ideas, and inspiration to explore documentary filmmaking.
We would like to extend our special thanks to the “My Radio My Life” team and Makarand Waikar for making this event possible.
Here’s what the students had to say about the screening.
About Makarand Waikar
Makarand Waikar is chemical engineer from IIT Kharagpur and has set up organization for scientific literature curation for databases. On weekends and spare time, he is a passionate filmmaker. He found his love for the art through his engagement with global film screenings, discussions, and courses at prestigious institutions like FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) and NFAI (National Film Archive of India) in Pune.
After studying many subjects of documentaries, he decided to focus on making films to capture the essence of lives, moments, traditions and practices from recent past and preserve them for generations to come.
His journey into the world of cinema began when he dedicated over two years to developing a concept and conducting extensive field research on the topic of Radio.
While the radio influenced people’s lives, it never intruded; it remained a loyal and true companion. Tomorrow you may see the vintage radios in the museum, but all the people who could tell the significance of radio won’t be around, That’s why it was important to make this documentary now.
The film has received Best Documentary Awards, nominations and selections at over 80 film festivals in 36 countries.
