Life at LLA

Fine Art Photography

Batch 24 students were introduced to the expansive world of fine art photography through an interactive workshop conducted by Varun Gupta.

Students explored the conceptual and narrative potential of photography through photobooks, visual storytelling, and creative editing. An activity to interpret and sequence existing photo sets into new narratives helped them understand how presentation can completely shift meaning.

The session also opened up the professional side of the field — with discussions on grants, residencies and open calls. For many, it was the first time they saw fine art photography not just as an expressive medium, but as a viable career path.

Here are some images from the workshop.

“The Fine-Art session by Varun Gupta was truly a transformative experience that went far beyond what I had imagined it would be. Varun sir’s deep knowledge and passion for art illuminated every part of the session.

One of the things I really enjoyed was the way storytelling was integrated into the session. Varun Sir introduced us to innovative ways of bringing stories to life — through story-based art projects, editing multiple images together, and organising interactive exercises. It was about turning a simple idea into a complete visual narrative, and learning how to capture those fleeting moments of inspiration.

It was also eye-opening to learn about what’s happening in the industry today. I now see how a set of images can shift in meaning depending on how they’re presented and perceived.

I’ve learned so much from this session, and I know I’ll carry these insights forward.”
