During the session, the faculty explained, in detail, how a fashion shoot is done, right from how the concept or idea is conceived to the day the shoot is done and how it is done.
We learned about the importance of colour palettes, props, accessories, and overall how to convey the theme and concept with those colours, props, backgrounds.
He also gave in depth insights on the types of fashion shoots that are done like editorial, advertisements etc. The importance of teamwork, coordinating with all the artists (like model, makeup, stylist) was also mentioned.
During the demos, he showed us how he shoots by coordinating along with all the team members, making changes according to the opinion of the team.Overall it was a great session, which gave each one of us a lot to learn from.

The technical aspects were taught very well and all our questions were answered and our doubts cleared. Ajit’s teaching patterns are Unique. He used to give us an idea about how to achieve the right image in terms of lighting & detailing, but never told us what to do on sets. He is allowed each one of us to experiment with different techniques we learnt. But before finding the right one, we explored many other ways which failed, but those failed methods would succeed on different products.

This location is wonderful. Also has an amazing east facing view, but more than view, structure and planning is itself a puzzle, as we go inside we explore each space, be it open or closed, by the time i explored all the spaces i was amazed with plenty of spill over spaces, landscaping, the various levels and the use of skylight. Contoured site is very well used and maintained. I would surely try to study a course here, the campus and faculty both together are a wonderful team.

The architect has made use of the contour levels really well. I loved the way in which the buildings are connected, lot of stairs to climb through. I noticed that every opening had an amazing frame be it the valley view or building view. The orientation has helped in getting such amazing frames. I am taking away so many lessons myself. The young photographers I interacted with showed passion, aesthetics and most importantly sensitivity in their work. Heartening. Photo-journalism is in good hands.

LLA is not only a photography school, but a hub for photographers.

It is the place I go to, to see groups of photographers discussing an image and continuously talking about the elements that make the image look good and how to improvise a shot. This is a place that tunes a person to appreciate life and the art of living through photography.

LLA is not only a learning experience for students, but for the faculty as well!

We selected ‘Light & Life Academy’ because it reflected the fundamental features for an ideal campus, especially for a photography school. But as we further explored the campus it was beyond the basics. The campus effectively shows how a campus should be planned in a highly sloped terrace. Besides the site planning, one of the most striking features was the use of colours. It perfectly merges with the surroundings, no buildings are seen isolated, furthermore it is clear that this is one of the most well designed building which shows sustainability as its extreme.

Talking about the Academy, the place where it is located gives a perfect justification to the photography school. The colours & the materials used in the building & spaces are perfectly used as per the environment. Through the point of view as an architecture student the terrains used are quite interesting and beautiful to create open, semi open as well as built space.

Good teachers are absolutely essential, and this photography institution has given us great teachers. I can’t thank the Institution enough for the knowledge and guidance.

For me, LLA is something which cannot be defined. I am what I am today because of LLA. I Can never forget the times spent here, it was the best year of my life till date. There is so much of inspiration and warmth at this campus. Whether it is Iqbal Sir, Anu ma’am or any other staff.

Mr. Desikan Krishnan’s class was one of the best classes we have had over the session. This class gave us an insight on how we must cover an event where there are other photographers as well covering the same frames. We also got to learn about the history of photography and photojournalism that has given us new perspectives.

Like great depth of field which gives you a sharp picture of the entire frame, you have sharpened my mind in photography. I came here with very little knowledge about photography and I am leaving with my head filled with lots of knowledge about awesome and creative photography. Thank you so much. Didn’t know that one week of learning something new would open up an entire new world, didn’t know I was capable of achieving a quality of pictures as never before, didn’t know that the world of photography has so much to offer, didn’t realise that it is never to late to begin a journey towards a new dream – but I know now and there is no going back! I have a high regard on Iqbal sir, but I never got an opportunity to attend his workshop. after this workshop my feelings on Iqbal sir are multiplying like any number. the space is not enough to write my feeling towards. It was a great learning experience in a beautiful surroundings. At the end of the workshop we could speak any photographic language. The mock VIP visit session this morning was very interesting. We got a hands on experience of being a photo journalist. Firstly, I learned how to work under a time constraint. Secondly, I understand the competitive nature of this field. Writing captions and being critiqued right away was helpful too.

Wished we had more classes with Mrs.Pankaja Srinivasan. It would be interesting to learn more about the editorial discussion that happen in newspapers and editorial ethics. Had an interesting critique session on the travel projects. She also gave ideas to how to get your work published on newspapers and regional columns.

Studio – an enclosed room with open minds makes an unimaginable photograph.
I didn’t know this before my first studio experience at lla. I had never seen or entered a studio before my first class at lla. I never knew I could control every thing inside a closed room and with just an simple understanding of light i could create amazing pictures. This experience has given me confidence that Photography is not just what is there but what you can create.

The studio experience was very frantic at first, but they say, ‘learning is better than knowing’. I learnt how important every detail is. And my level of imagination, with placement of products and light have improved to the next level. Learning to do photography in an enclosed room with lights and products is something I wish to carry forward.

It was necessary for us photographers as creators of the image to understand what goes into creating a work of art; that patience and attention to detail was primary. We were also equipped to understand what colours went together and how certain colours evoke certain emotions. This probably is essential for any photographer hoping to create meaning through their images. Dr.Margaret and Dr.Swapna’s workshop helped us learn these essentials.

Knowing the basic colours was always taught to us since kinder garden. And being a photographer, it was very important but the colour class that we had with Ms.Swapna and Ms.Margaret gave us a clear understanding of the colour wheel and how it has all evolved over the years. And the icing on the cake was the painting and collage activities that we were made to do.

An institute that stands apart for it’s excellence, beauty and passion. It feels like its been driven by true love for an art which is an art itself. Hope this institution continues to attract students from all over the world. Wishing you all the best!

Iqbal sir’s session was long awaited. It was good to finally get the chance to learn from him. Looking at his photos really inspired me. His session was very informative and educative. Looking forward to more such sessions and learning a lot more from him. I also wish to reach to his level of expertise and knowledge.

I think this has been said so many times but I must say it too. The first few minutes of interacting with Punya ma’am felt like being hit with a tsunami of enthusiasm. The energy is infectious and inspiring. Regarding the classes itself, ma’am has this very direct approach that I personally liked. Right from the first day I felt extremely comfortable conversing in class whenever I needed to.

Admist the grey mountains, the blue sky, the green valley and the beautiful colourful flowers, we have had three memorable days here at LLA. We leave this afternoon inspired by sir’s experiences and the little stories he shared with us. We have had a wonderful time here, be it the drizzle or the delicious warm, home cooked meals….. Thank you for everything!!

The moon light photography assignment was one of the best outdoor assignments which we did during the course at light and life academy. The moonlight assignment forced me to step out of my house during post evening till the very late night and observe the different and beautiful night life of Ooty which was completely different from the night life at modern city, in the end enjoyed a lot.

Learning in LLA has been a lifetime experience. You can never forget those memories, and these memories are the ones which pulls you back to visit the college. Visiting LLA and meeting Iqbal Sir and Anuradha Ma’am was just refreshing the times when I studied here.

Your energy level gave us the needed motivation to start off our story at Light & Life Academy. You will always be one of our best teachers. You thought us to balance work and fun at the same time. You have been approachable and responded to us immediately regarding our submissions. Thanks for being a part of our journey and guiding us through the session. I think this has been said so many times but I must say it too. The first few minutes of interacting with Punya ma’am felt like being hit with a tsunami of enthusiasm. The energy is infectious and inspiring. Beyond that I think right from the get go we all felt like she was one of us and that’s not just because she’s an alumnus. I think that feeling made it very easy for all of us to speak up in class and approach her outside of class too. Regarding the classes itself, ma’am has this very direct approach that I personally liked. She made everything very clear right at the start. Pay attention, don’t doze off and don’t interrupt. I usually think twice before asking questions in class, but I think right from the first day I felt extremely comfortable conversing in class whenever I needed to.
