The Nilgiris isn’t just a place; it’s an experience. The warmth and kindness of its people make the Nilgiris extra special (don’t be surprised if you’re greeted with tea, biscuits, or even a hearty meal!). At LLA, we take every opportunity to explore the local villages, helping students connect with the vibrant cultures and stories that make this region so extraordinary.
Here’s a glimpse of the trips to two villages: Achanakkal and Kalakorai.
The villages of Nilgiris offer ideal spots for photoshoots with their colourful architecture and heartwarming stories. Here are some pictures done by the students during their visits to these villages.
Here’s what the students had to say about the trip:
“It has been an intense few weeks of learning – with the Light, Aperture and Shutter modules. The field trip to Kallakorai village was the ideal opportunity for me to play with all these techniques. We met the villagers and learnt about their daily lives, which gave me more context for capturing meaningful images. I enjoyed photographing the people, their surroundings, and experimenting with some abstract shots as well. To top off the day, we learned some Badaga dance steps from the Akkas, which was a lot of fun!” – Sushmita Dutta, Batch 24
“It was a great experience visiting Kallakorai village as a batch. We had the chance to explore, observe, and interact with the villagers. I was fascinated by the colours and contrasts I spotted throughout the village and had a great time making pictures. Being in the Nilgiris, I feel it’s important to explore the cultural diversity of this land.” -Abhishek Fridjo
