To me Wildlife Photography is beyond making a living, it is a way of living.”
The years I have spent filming wildlife have been masterclasses in philosophy. The wildlife I followed taught me how to live in harmony with nature, how to appreciate life and its nuances. I learnt to de-stress just watching a group of monkeys going through their antics, for hours and being happy. These lessons are invaluable.
Now, when we know how the wildlife habitat has shrunk, vast expanses degraded, eco-system disturbed by climate change and the threat it poses to wildlife it is very disheartening.”
– Alphonse Roy

Much as every one of us likes to take images of wildlife, we must become one with the environment, understand the habit and habitat of the wildlife and ensure that we give the wildlife the space and respect it deserves even as we attempt to take images.

Besides, images we take must, in some way, contribute to changing the attitude of people to wildlife, from being just subjects to be captured for personal gratification, to a piece of communication that will help in conservation.

Through this workshop, Alphonse Roy will give the participants an experience of how he approaches wildlife and how he was able to make the films he did. Hopefully, at the end of the workshop, the participants will not just make some wildlife images but get a feel of enjoying wildlife beyond just capturing an image.

Light & Life Academy will draw on the vast experience in teaching professional photography of every kind to help participants explore how to get a good wildlife image. Areas covered will include technical & aesthetic aspects of Photography, with key emphasis on composition and light.

We must be very aware that though we may, with the understanding of the animal/bird behaviour, be able to track the wildlife, it is still chance that plays a role here. Being at the right place at the right time cannot always be planned.

Lecture sessions, live photography sessions and feedback sessions will happen every day. On the last day, key takeaways will be discussed.

DSLR/Mirrorless camera with a 70-200mm zoom lens and a 2X Tele-convertor or a 400mm to 600 mm Tele lens. A tripod will be useful. A laptop and card reader for downloading and processing images everyday.
