This course is designed for any passionate individual wanting to make a career in Professional Photography. It is meticulously structured and continuously evolving to keep pace with the latest trends in the industry. The schedule is densely packed and assumes a very high level of interest and motivation amongst the students.

Starting from the basics, students go into an intensive study of lighting both outdoors and in the studio during this course. By the end of it, they are exposed to a wide range of specialisations - Architecture, Automobile, Fashion, Fine Art, Food & Beverage, Industrial, Portraiture, Product, Travel, Nature, Underwater Fashion and Wildlife. While they might go into only one of these areas professionally, this approach widens their creative horizons and ensures a holistic learning experience.

Learning is facilitated through a mix of lectures, slideshows, demonstrations, outdoor and studio assignments, critique sessions, workshops, field-trips, guest lectures and seminars. At Light & Life Academy, there is no concept of “failing”; Our faculty constantly engages with students, providing inputs that cater specifically to individual learning curves.

Graduates of this course can go on to work with small businesses, advertising agencies, corporates and industries.

Every area of study above has its own time-bound assignments with critique and grading. The faculty also offers collective and individual feedback while students are working on their assignments.

Advanced Portable Flash
Exploring advanced creative possibilities with portable flash including high speed flash photography.

Studio Part 1
Introduction to Studio - Understanding usage of lights, light modifiers and grip equipment.

Studio Part 2
Exploring lighting concepts used in product and portrait photography.

Studio Part 3
Conceptual photography of products with various types of surfaces.

Post Production 2
Image editing, compositing and retouching techniques.

Medium format cameras and Tilt-Shift lenses
Understanding the possibilities of using these equipment.

Every topic will be covered through lectures, slideshows, demos followed by time-bound assignments with critique and grading.

Once students complete Section 1 and 2 they move on to an intensive study of the following areas of specialisations.

Location Portraiture

Learn Indoor and Outdoor Location Portraiture in Natural and Artificial Light (Portable Flash and Continuous Light Sources with applicable light modifying accessories).

Travel & Nature Photography

Travel: Students learn how to capture places and events- Culture and Heritage.

Nature: Students learn how to capture Landscapes of all kinds, both in Colour and Black & White. Additionally, they will also learn how to capture medium close ups and close ups of all subjects in nature using natural and artificial lights.

Documentary Videography

This module will equip the students with the ability to create a cohesive piece of video communication to handle documentary and corporate films.

Each topic will be covered through lectures, slide shows, demos followed by time-bound assignments with critique and grading.

Indian Snacks and Sweets - Food Photography by LLA alumni Mihir Hardikar

LLA believes that the exposure to different areas of photography will help broaden a student’s creative horizon. Therefore, the course will cover all the following areas of specialisation.

Every specialisation will be covered through lectures, slideshows and demos (Industrial Photography will not have a demo).

While students are provided the opportunity to get an insight into all areas of photography, they will be required to submit a portfolio of images in any one area of their choice.

For those hungry for more knowledge, Light & Life Academy will conduct seminars in the following topics to widen the students’ photography horizon.


Exploring the concepts and techniques involved in the visual representation of a story.

Event and Wedding Photography

Learning to approach event/wedding photography with the intent to convey a complete story.

Aerial and Drone Photography

Learning the techniques of photographing subjects from an aerial vantage point.

Fine Art Photography

Exploring various techniques, processes and approaches used in Fine Art Photography.

Astro Photography

Understanding the techniques involved in capturing astronomical objects, celestial events and areas of the night sky.

Curating & Presenting Images

Understanding how to select, sequence, format images to suit various platforms with the intention to exhibit.

Business Aspects of Photography.

Learning how to navigate the challenges involved in the business aspects of professional photography.

These sessions will have lectures, slide shows, real life case studies, followed by Q & A. Students will be equipped to then explore these areas on their own.

For those who would like to explore other areas of photography, Light & Life Academy offers the following workshops.

Underwater Fashion/Portraiture

Learn how to handle the specific challenges involved in underwater photography in terms of lighting and styling.

Wildlife Photography

Understand the nuances involved in wildlife photography with hands-on experience of photographing subjects in the wild.

These sections will be conducted through lectures, slide shows and demos on location followed by a Q&A session.

Note: These workshops will be available at an additional fee.

Evaluation is done on a continuous basis, on assignments submitted and tests administered. The students are expected to clear every single assignment/test with a minimum score of 70%.

Light & Life Academy believes that every student can make the grade, and the student is given enough opportunities and assistance from the faculty to achieve the minimum grade for every assignment.

Note: The policy of the Academy is to constantly update the course content. This is based on developments in the field/ industry (technical, aesthetic & communication).The course content, schedules and methodology are therefore subject to change even as the course is in progress.

Section 1 , Section 2 & Section 3: INR 6,75,000/-

Section 4 & Section 5: INR 1,10,000/-

Section 6: Optional : Fee subject to the number of people opting for the workshops.

Refundable security deposit: INR 30,000/-

GST as applicable will be payable on the fee.

The fee includes

  • Use of lighting equipment, light modifying accessories and grip equipment within the Academy Campus only.
  • A selection of props and backgrounds for use in LLA Studios (to be returned in original condition after use).
  • Models, stylist, make-up artist/hair stylist, food stylist, faculty and other professionals for demo sessions only, based on the requirements of different areas of study.
  • Transport from Ooty (designated pick up points) to Academy and back on days when the student is required to be on campus for a class/ critique session / demo.
  • Lunch, tea / coffee on days when the student is required to be on campus for a class/ critique session / demo.

Additional Expenses to be borne by the students

  • Personal equipment as specified by the Academy
  • Personal equipment maintenance / repairs / insurance / books / stationery
  • Personal expenses on accommodation, food and personal travel, etc.
  • Expenses for travel and stay at locations where assignment shots and portfolio shots are to be done
  • Expenses involved while working on specialisation projects. On models, stylist, make-up artist/hair stylist, food stylist and other professionals based on the requirements of different areas of study.
  • Cost of making archival prints, in case of exhibition on campus or at locations off-campus
  • Overnight field trips

Admission is open to any graduate (with a minimum of 15 years of formal education), who is over 20 years of age.

In rare cases, exceptions will be made at the discretion of management, for those who have not completed a UG degree, but have substantial work experience.

The course requires candidates to have their own DSLR/Mirrorless camera with lenses ranging from wide to tele. A detailed equipment list will be provided once the candidate is accepted

Note: Light and Life Academy does not provide hostel facilities. However, assistance will be provided by the academy in finding appropriate accommodation. .


Admission is on a first-come-first-served basis and involves a three-step process:

  • Online Application Review by Light & Life Academy.
  • Online Interview with teaching and administrative staff.
  • Online or Personal interview with Director(s).
The Academy notifies admission status soon after the interviews.

a. Profile Picture: Digital file of a recent passport size photograph against a plain background (Note: ‘Selfies’ not accepted)
b. Digital copies(PDF/Jpeg) of Educational certificates.
c. Reference letters (Optional).
d. Portfolio: 20 images made by the candidate.

Note: Once the application process has been initiated, the form can be accessed by using the unique URL sent to your email id.

Step 2: Complete online payment of application fee.

Upon payment of Rs.1000/- + GST, the application process is complete.
